Tickets were easy to collect from agent in harbour .for a charge of 1 euro per ticket. . The ferry departed on time and was surprisingly modern inside .... it's been a few years since travelling on such a ferry. Had seats booked for outside and it was fine with a great view and a bit more sun .. would recommend this service as it was cheap compared to the high speed service and only took 5 minutes longer .

Naxos City, or Chora, is the island's largest town and capital and is built amphitheatrically on the island's west coast. It is also home to one of the biggest ports in the Aegean Sea. The town is popular with tourists and as a result there are many bars, restaurants and cafes to cater for them. The small island of Palatia, which extends from the mainland of Naxos, is the town's emblem. Located on the small island is Portara, which is a monument resembling a door standing alone, without any walls attached to either side. A visit to Portara is advisable, especially after your swim, whilst the sun is setting.
The island is also well known for its food and for producing the famous Naxian potatoes, wine, Kitron liquor productions and the popular cheese called Graviera. There are many restaurants located throughout the island serving local produce to the many tourists who visit.
From the island's port ferries depart to Piraeus (Athens) and to the other islands in the Cyclades.

It is the second largest of the Cyclades and has many things to see and do including taking part in the many different water sports that are on offer. There is also the Church of Panagia Ekatantapiliani which dates back to 326 AD and is also popular with tourists. For a relaxing way to spend your time on the island there are some lovely tavernas that line the Parikia seafront and also some lovely beaches that include Agia Irini, Farangas, Kato and Logaras.
The island's port is in Parikia and hosts both conventional ferries and high speed ferries. Ferries generally depart to Piraeus and to the other islands of the Cyclades.
