    We really enjoyed this trip. It lasted 5 hours but there were a lot of facilities to have a pleasant stay. There was a swimming pool, plenty of deck-chairs, nice restaurant. It didn't feel crowded, however, the ship was full. Everything was as promised in the offer.

  • "Mega Smeralda is a nice ferry!"

    This is a really nice 'old school' ferry with a variety of places to eat and drink, plenty of outside space, very reminiscent of the much lamented Pride of Bilbao that sailed between the UK and Spain for many, many years. Ours was a daytime crossing so didn't get to see any entertainment or sample the cabins but I could imagine a night crossing would be a pleasant experience. The crew are a happy bunch too which adds to the good atmosphere on board. The loading/unloading procedure was perhaps a little frantic and the tying down of motorcycles a little haphazard (I was left to sort out my own as the guys seemed to lose interest after the first few), but all in all, as ferry crossings go, very enjoyable.

Bastia Guide

Located in the haute-Corse department of France, in the north east of the island of Corsica lies the town of Bastia. The town is Corsica's main hub for commercial activity and is also its principal port, which is in fact divided into three parts. The old port ("Vieux Port") lies in a narrow cove and is mainly used by non-commercial operators such as pleasure and fishing boats. The commercial ferry port is a little north of the town and even further to the north is the Toga Marina which is mainly used by leisure craft such as yachts and sailing boats.

There are a number of visitor attractions in the town including The Museum of Corsica. There is also The Fortress with its keep and 16th century bell tower which provides great views over the old port, Terra Vecchia, the mountains and the coast. There is also the former palace of the Genoese governors which is now home to the museum of Corsican Ethnography.

The ferry Port of Bastia links Bastia to France (Marseille, Nice and Toulon) and Italy (Genoa, La Spezzia, Livorno, Piombino, Savona, Portoferraio).

The French city of Nice is the capital of the Cote d'Azur and is a world famous cosmopolitan tourist destination and is perfect for sun lovers.
