    My first boat crossing between Corsica and the continent. I booked a seat both ways as I don't know how it works… Result: don't spend 16€ for nothing as there is space everywhere on the boat. The room where we sit to watch the only movie available on a loop is almost never visited by the staff. Either the TV is very loud or you cannot hear a thing. Above all, it's freezing!! Single girls should also be careful, as male staff is alway on the look-out!

Ajaccio Guide

Ajaccio is the largest settlement on the French island of Corsica. The town is perhaps most famous for being the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1769. He was born in Casa Buonaparte which is now open to the public. The town's airport, Ajaccio napoleon Bonaparte Airport, has also been dedicated to him. Lying around 210 miles to the south east of Marseilles, the town is located on the south west coast of Corsica and has a sheltered position at the bottom of wooded hills on the northern shore of the Gulf of Ajaccio. The town's harbour is located to the east of the original citadel below a hill overlooking a peninsular which protects the harbour.

There are almost daily ferries operating from Ajaccio to the ports of Marseilles, Toulon and Nice on the French mainland. These services are supplemented by ferries to Livorno on the Italian mainland and to Sardinia, along with services to Calvi and Propriano.

Ajaccio has also become a stopover for cruises with a total of 418,086 passengers in 2007 - by far the largest in Corsica and the second in France (after Marseille, but ahead of Nice/Villefranche-sur-Mer and Cannes).

The French city of Nice is the capital of the Cote d'Azur and is a world famous cosmopolitan tourist destination and is perfect for sun lovers. The coastline around the city is spectacular and is popular all year round with its warm and sunny summer months, and mild winters. Another popular pastime whilst in the city is to take a stroll along the Promenade des Anglais (the Promenade of the English) which dates back nearly 200 years and borders the city's Mediterranean Sea coast and runs for about 6 km. There are many beautiful spots along the promenade where visitors like to sit and take in the spectacular views. The coastline of Nice is full of tourist attractions, and nearby there are also a number of appealing Côte d'Azur towns and cities. Also close to Nice are many traditional Provençal villages, which are full of character.
