The ship is lovely, it was such a fantastic day though that I can't comment on the facilities I spent the whole evening sitting out on the open deck, wind in my hair and having a wonderful time admiring the beauty of the route. My one tip for users would be that your e-mail is not your ticket - you have to exchange it at the office which is in a shop on the street opposite the port. This is not obvious, if like us you arrive on foot from the bus station side of Volos. Therefore having got on board and up the stairs I had to go back and exchange the e-mail for tickets - luckily we arrived with plenty of time so it was not an issue for us.

The town's port is the region's only access to the sea and the town is the capital of the Magnesia region. Volos' port is one of the newest ports in Greece with many of its buildings being constructed after 1955, when an earthquake destroyed much of what was there before. The University of Thessaly is located in the city which is also a centre for manufacturing, services and tourism for the region. The city played an important role in the 2004 Olympic Games as since then has also hosted other athletic events such as the European Athletics Championships. The city also hosted the 7th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics in July and August 2013.
The city is regarded as one of the most beautiful in Greece and its long history can be seen in its buildings. The many mansions, municipal buildings, museums, early 20th century industrial buildings and lovely churches all combine to make Volos a place worth visiting.
From the city's port, ferry services depart to Skiathos, Alonissos, Glossa and Skopelos.
The small Greek island of Skiathos lies in the Aegean Sea and measures approximately 12 km in length and 6 km wide, with a total land area of roughly 50 sq. km. It forms part of the Sporades group of islands and is that island chain's smallest inhabited island where most of the population is located around its south coast. In this part of the island the hills are generally much gentler than the more rugged northern part of the island. Much of the island's interior is covered by Pine forests and is a great deal Greener than most of the other Greek islands in the Mediterranean. The island's main towns are Skiathos and Koukounaries.
The island can trace its inhabited history back to ancient times when it was founded in the 7th or 7th centuries BC by the Ionians. Over subsequent centuries Skiathos has been ruled by a number of different civilisations including the Athenians, the Spartans, the Macedonians, the Romans, the Byzantine, the Venetians and the Ottomans.
Skiathos is connected by conventional ferry and high speed ferry to Thessaloniki, the other islands in the Sporades, the islands of the Cyclades and to Crete.
