Train and ferry to Isle of Wight

Train and ferry to the Isle of Wight via Cowes and you’ll be travelling on the Southampton to East or West Cowes service operated by Red Funnel. Ferries to West Cowes utilise the high speed Red Jet passenger ferry and take around 25 minutes while services via East Cowes are operated by the Red Funnel car ferry which takes around an hour. Upon arrival at Southampton Central station you’ll need to hop on the free shuttle bus which runs between the bus stop outside platform 4 exit and the ferry terminal. Journey time is approximately 15 minutes. Taxis pick-up just outside the entrance of both terminals however it is advised to pre-book.

Train and ferry to the Isle of Wight via Ryde and you’ll be travelling on the Portsmouth Ryde service operated by Wightlink. Wightlink’s Portsmouth Harbour catamaran terminal is located next to the train station at Portsmouth Harbour. On the Isle of Wight, Island Line train services run directly from Ryde Pier Head catamaran terminal (station is within the same interchange as the catamaran terminal) allowing for easy onward travel to other island destinations. You can book a train ferry combined ticket from anywhere on the mainland to Smallbrook junction, Brading, Sandown, Lake and Shanklin on the Isle of Wight.

Rail and sail by train and ferry to the Isle of Wight via Yarmouth and you’ll be travelling on the Lymington Yarmouth service operated by Wightlink. Lymington Pier train station is located in close proximity to the Lymington ferry terminal allowing for an easy transfer to the ferry. For onward travel in Isle of Wight, you’ll need to connect with the Southern Vectis bus service which operates from outside the terminal on Bridge Road.
