Taketomi Guide
Taketomi Island belongs to the Yaeyama Islands, an archipelago that is found towards the southeast of Japan. The port is used to connect passengers with neighbouring islands, with crossings to Ishigaki on the south coast of Ishigaki Island and Kohama on Kohama Island.
What is there to do in Taketomi?
Taketomi Island is a mecca of natural bliss; Kondoi Beach and Kajii Beach afford an endless stretch of natural beauty, maintaining their glorious aesthetics without the demands of modern tourism inflecting the landscape. Even at the height of summer the beaches remain fairly quiet – there is always room to put your towel and the cafes and shops lining the shore are rarely too busy. Away from the coastline, Taketomi Village offers an insight into the history of the island and Japan’s authentic architectural structures, exemplified by the narrow streets hosting single story houses.
