Found on the west coast of Italy, lying in the province of Livorno, Portoferraio is on the edge of the harbour belonging to the island of Elba. The port provides crossings to popular tourist resorts in Italy and France with sailings ranging from 15 minutes to 90 minutes.

What is there to do in Portoferraio?

If you were to watch the ferries coming into the docks during summer, it would seem like the entirety of Italy was piling into the town. The abundance of visitors that arrive with the warm weather can make Portoferraio seem overcrowded, yet the array of restaurants, shops and landmarks allow for the rush of tourism. After days of sunbathing and exploring the surrounding waters, many may long for a spot of culture and history; the town is steeped in beautiful architecture, most notably the Parco Nazionale Arcipelago Toscano Park which offers wonderful vistas among stunning structural designs. For an insight into the history of Portoferraio, several museums are dotted around to showcase the town’s rich past. Sunbathing and sightseeing can be an exhausting combination, so in the evening head to one of the fine restaurants to enjoy the delicious seafood served fresh from the waters.

How To Get To Portoferraio Ferry Port

    From the East of the Island take the SP24. From the West of the Island take the SP 26 or the SP28.

    There is no rail service in the island.

    You can take the Blue line bus (number 5) and the Purple line bus (number 6) take you directly to the port. Alternatively all other bus lines have stops near the port as well.
