Ferries to Koh Kood

Koh Kood is found close to the Cambodian border in the Gulf of Thailand and is one of the country’s last unspoilt gems.

Some argue it is the most beautiful Thai island and it’s easy to see why. As opposed to its larger and more well-known counterpart, Koh Chang, it’s the perfect place for a peaceful retreat. It has long stretches of quiet, sandy beaches and not much in the way of a buzzing nightlife.

You can spend your day lazing in a hammock between palm trees, snorkelling in the warm, clear water or sitting in a café watching the gorgeous sunset. Although there is not much of a clubbing scene, Sunset Bar in Klong Chao hosts parties every Saturday until midnight.

For a more active day, you can trek through the jungle to the stunning Klong Chao waterfall and bathe in its huge plunge pool. There’s a slightly smaller waterfall further north called Khlong Yai Ki which also has a natural pool.

Renting a motorbike is a great way to explore the island. Be sure to venture over to Ao Yai in the south-east, a traditional fishermen village built on stilts, offering fresh seafood and cheap snorkelling.

Koh Kood boasts some of the finest diving opportunities in the world. The water visibility can reach up to thirty metres and you’re likely to come across sea turtles, colourful fish, stingrays and even sea horses.

There are some excellent restaurants around the island too, most notably the family run ‘Chiang Mai’ in the south-west, serving exquisite yet affordable Thai food.

Travelling to Koh Kood by ferry is quick and easy. There are daily sailings from neighbouring Koh Mak, which depart from the south-east pier. If travelling from the mainland, there are frequent high-speed ferries departing from Laem Sok on the south coast, directly to the north.

All ferries dock at Ao Salad Pier on Koh Kood’s western coast, in easy reach of the resorts and beaches.
