GLD Atlantique was the brand name for the first Franco-Spanish 'motorway of the sea', linking the ports of St Nazaire (Nantes) and Gijón.
Originally a joint venture between Grimaldi Lines and LD Lines - 2 of Europe’s largest Ferry Operators, the passenger service is now operated under the LD Lines brand.
The Saint Nazaire Gijon ferry route is operated by an 800 passenger capacity vessel featuring all the facilities expected of a modern day ferry.
The 'motorway of the sea' concept is to relieve congestion on roads crossing the Pyrenees (especially the N10 trunk road) and reduce the environmental impact of vehicle transport by offering a shift from road to sea.
"St Nazaire-Gijon crossing"
A very good journey. We were welcomed by a very pleasant staff, the boat is confortable. The duration of the crossing was respected. I wouldn't recommend it to people who are sea sick.

Slightly turbulent sea, but it was an excellent ferry.

For many years I have done 980km in roads with great risks, tiredness and risks. Today I save myself from all that by taking the ferry from Santander to Gijon.

A very pleasant journey, an attentive staff, a noisy but confortable cabin. The meals were very good. Thanks everyone.
