About Chuja Island:
Chuja Island is located halfway between Jeju to the south and the South Korean mainland to the north.
Consisting of 2 main islands connected by a bridge called Hachuja and Sangchuja, meaning ‘upper’ and ‘lower Chuja’, there are also 38 uninhabited islands lying just offshore.
The islands are fantastic for sea fishing, with a huge variety of species such as yellow corvinas, snappers and horn fish to be found in the surrounding waters. On land, some of the main attractions include a habitat for black wood pigeons and streaked shearwaters and the shrine of Choi Yeong, a famous 14th Century army General.
Chuja Island’s ferry terminal is on the east coast, where frequent sailings are provided to the island of Jeju and the port of Wando on the mainland. The routes are operated by one of South Korea’s leading ferry companies, with journeys provided almost every day.
